HAN is a signage project aimed at raising awareness of tailoring shops, often managed by a single person and with a long history. These boutiques play an essential role in sustainable fashion, the circular economy, and environmental protection, while integrating personal stories and emotions throughout the ages, from antiquity to the present.
The signage is inspired by hanji, a traditional Korean paper, and combines iconic elements of tailoring such as needles, spools, and scissors. A line of stitching between the two faces of hanji paper symbolizes the fusion of these elements. During the day, natural light makes this line clearly visible, symbolizing openness, while at closing time, it becomes invisible, emphasizing the connection between tailoring, light, and the environment.
Eco-friendly and durable, hanji is made from mulberry fibers, making it strong, flexible, and capable of diffusing natural light. This signage also functions as an eco-friendly lamp, illuminating naturally when the shop is openand turning off at closing time, symbolizing the welcoming of stories and their extension through clothing, while harmoniously linking to the history of tailoring. Thus, the movement of the scissors accompanies the rhythm of the opening and closing of the door.
